OAP, Daddy Freeze, has come under fire on social media due to his connection with arrested social media elite, Hushpuppi.

Hushpuppi and Daddy freeze

Social media users called Daddy Freeze out after Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai following a raid on suspected fraudsters living in Dubai.

Daddy Freeze in his defense said he always assumed that alleged international fraudster, Ramon Abass aka Hushpuppi, was a social media influencer and not a criminal. He denied having knowledge of Hushpuppi being a fraudster and said if he had known, he would not have associated with him at all.

The social media uproar and bashing came at the wake of the news about celebrity social media influencer Hushpuppi’s arrest in dubai alongside other internet fraudsters who have been on the radar of the Dubai police and the FBI.

Hushpuppi was arrested in the United Arab Emirate on June 10 2020, for multiple fraud charges months after several other Nigerians, including Obinwanne Okeke and Ismaila Mompha, were arrested in August and October 2019, respectively, for their alleged roles in separate multinational fraud.

The Dubai police officially released a video on Thursday, detailing how his arrest was effected and the shocking facts surrounding his arrest. It was revealed in the video that Hushpuppi alongside others had defrauded millions of victims of about N168 billion most of which where gotten through cloning multinational websites and redirecting payments to phony accounts all in the bid to defraud unsuspecting victims.

It is estimated that Hushpuppi and his gang allegedly defrauded about 2 million people. Although he was bashed and ridiculed on social media after his arrest, many of his followers acknowledged benefiting from his occasional cash ‘giveaways’, although his source of affluence, which has long evoked the curiosity of bloggers, remained unclear, yet speculated to be illegal. The arrest had tongues wagging and celebrities sitting on the fence about the whole issue.

This brought about the calling out of Daddy Freeze when videos of him dining with Hush surfaced online.

Daddy Freeze, who is known for his incessant attacks on pastors, especially in the area of tithing, said Jesus Christ never condemned anyone and it would be wrong of anyone to judge Hushpuppi and as such, he will not condemn him and he urged Nigerians not to criticize the social media big boy for his arrest by the Dubai police and the FBI.

Daddy Freeze, who works with 99.3FM Nigeria Info, said this in a video while reacting to criticisms from Nigerians on Friday. He was seen reclining in a palatial house while addressing Nigerian social media users to get busy with their lives and stop accusing him for whatever he did or did not do.

He quoted scriptures from the Bible to prove that Jesus never criticized anyone so why should he. He cited instances where Jesus dined with sinners and was not hanged for it. Daddy Freeze obviously unbothered by the rude remarks of social media users said he has no obligation to answer to anyone reasons for his actions as he is a grown man and a man of his own.

Ifedayo Olarinde popularly known as Daddy Freeze was born in Cluj-Napoca, Romania to a Nigerian father and a Romanian mother. He spent most of his growing years in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he attended the International School. He then proceeded to the higher institution where he bagged a degree in sociology from the University of Ibadan and has since serenaded our radios with his voice and charisma.

In an old documentary that began trending in the wake of Hushpuppi’s recent arrest, Daddy Freeze is seen mocking Nigerian youths who accuse Hushpuppi of fraud.

In the documentary which is almost an hour-long, Daddy Freeze, accompanied by his wife, to Hushpuppi’s house to wine and dine with him described Hush with glowing words like his hypeman knowing fully well about the rumors surrounding Hushpuppi’s questionable lifestyle.

Social media users shared the video on both instagram and tweeter to drag and ridicule Daddy Freeze for being an hypocrite but Daddy freeze denied having knowledge of the fraudulent activities Hushpuppi was involved in. In his defense, He said had he known that Hushpuppi was a criminal, he wouldn’t have hung out with him not to mention make a video of it.

Daddy Freeze said, “While we were driving, he got calls from Gucci, he got calls from Versace, and he got calls from LV all wanting to host him. He claimed he was an influencer. While I was there, there was nothing suspicious”

In the shared documentary, Daddy Freeze was heard saying “Hushpuppi’s driver earns N700,000 month while you that abuses him on social media are doing houseboy work and earn N35,000 a month, Instead of you to beg Hushpuppi to hire your father as a driver,” Daddy Freeze said between a mouthful of food served at Hushpuppi’s mansion.

This statement irked Nigerian youths as it ridicules their honest efforts at making a decent living through legal means.

Daddy freeze further said “He didn’t receive calls from hackers. I didn’t meet him at a crime scene. I met him at the Burberry VIP Lounge that was open to exclusive members and his house. The interview was shot in those places” but social media users will have none of it and have called him names and also call him a two-faced glutton.

Among the tweets and comments, a user accused him of always hanging out with criminals, Freeze had this to say “ First things first, I didn’t know him to be a criminal. If I did, I wouldn’t hang out with him and unless someone is proven guilty, I do not discriminate against him because Christ who I follow didn’t discriminate.”

Daddy Freeze has always been in one controversy or the other, one of which cost him his job sometime ago. Freeze started his radio career in 1996 with the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), Ibadan and joined Cool FM in 2001 working in radio presenting, television and general entertainment.

He is a senior broadcaster at Cool FM Lagos where he has carved a niche for himself in the broadcasting industry as a professional and an ace as well. He is also an event compere and has hosted a number of music concerts, comedy shows and Nollywood premieres in Nigeria, Ghana and the United Kingdom on several occasions.
